Protecting the heart of Larchmont

Larchmont Village is more than a neighborhood in the traditional sense—Larchmont is a community with deep history and a distinctive village character. For decades, neighbors, merchants, and visitors have cherished the area’s local businesses and, walkable streets. At the center of this community is the Farmers Market Lot (City Parking Lot 694), bringing the neighborhood together twice a week.

The farmers market is where families gather, friendships form, and local businesses thrive. Prioritizing the farmers market and protecting this open-air space means defending the village identity that makes Larchmont special, and ensuring that the needs and wishes of the community come first. Any conversation about development must begin with a commitment to the people and our city’s public spaces.

Why Larchmont Works

Larchmont Village has thrived as a unique LA neighborhood for over a century, rooted in a tradition of walkable, friendly community life. Here’s what makes Larchmont exceptional:

  • Historic Character: Founded in the early 1900s, Larchmont’s charm shows through its tree-lined streets and beautifully preserved architecture. Major Henry Hancock and Julius LaBonte’s vision created Southern California’s first true “village” shopping street.

  • Village Vibrancy: Larchmont Boulevard offers everything from cozy coffee shops to independent bookstores, bakeries, and fitness studios. Real estate values remain strong, reflecting decades of successful stewardship by residents and businesses.

  • Strong Community: Larchmont’s sense of neighborhood is on display at community festivals, neighborhood association meetings, and the weekly farmers market. Generations of families, artisans, and entrepreneurs are drawn here by our welcoming, open atmosphere.

  • Central Convenience: Located minutes from Hollywood, downtown, and the Miracle Mile, Larchmont offers easy access while maintaining a quiet, safe feel that’s rare in Los Angeles.

When my grandson (end right, black cap) was in elementary school at Citizens of the World, Larchmont Boulevard was one of those rare places you could trust to keep children safe. I’d leave him at Chevalier’s Bookstore, knowing he’d be nurtured by a community that cares. Places like Chevalier’s and Village Pizzeria—offer more than products and meals; they provide a sense of belonging and security that helps children grow and learn.

These safe, welcoming spaces are what make Larchmont work. They allow children to explore, families to gather, and neighbors to form lasting bonds. The Farmers Market is a cornerstone of this environment, and it deserves our protection from unnecessary development that could threaten Larchmont’s unique village character.

I will always put families, neighborhood priorities, and our open spaces first. I stand with Larchmont residents and merchants to defend the Farmers Market lot from unwanted development and will fight to keep Larchmont the inviting, nurturing place it’s always been.
